Q1. What is thermoplastic compound?
When a polymer can’t satisfy the requests of application, compounding is usually a good solution to improve its properties like, mechanical performance, temperature resistance, electrical or thermal conductivity, weather resistance, chemical resistance, color effects, etc…
Q2. How do we make compounding?
There are several ways to make thermoplastic compounding. We are making compounds by an equipment called co-rotating twin screw extruder.
Q3. How do we execute a case?
First, we need to understand the exactly demands of material. Then we design a formula of compound. Sourcing the raw materials and arrange a trial by R&D team. Compounding the formula and analyze its properties following global standards. The formula and processing condition will be adjusted when it’s necessary. The trial will be repeated until we find out the final formula and process.
Q4. Does Polyalloy offer service of OEM like a toll compounder?
We do offer service of OEM but it must not conflict with our current products. To protect our employees, we do not take any case with raw material of explosive, flammable, toxic or harmful to human body, anything may cause long-term adverse effects in the environment.
Q5. I want to reduce my material’s cost, is compounding a solution?
It’s not a good idea to use compounds on a product if it can be made by a virgin polymer. Typically, compounding is for improving the performance of polymer which causes higher cost, including additives, processing, packaging, shipping and compounder’s profit. Adding cheap fillers or using regrind polymer might be options, but they won’t reduce much cost on commodity polymers.
Q6. What kind of polymer can we make to compound?
Compounding is developed to enhance the polymers. Typically, each thermoplastic polymer can be made to compound if it’s necessary.
Q7. Is there any compound that we can’t make?
Due to restriction of equipment, Polyalloy can’t make every polymer into compound, like thermoset polymers, PVC, etc..
Q8. What do compounds look like?
Our compounds are all resin, small pellets in different shape, depending on the materials.
Q9. Do we have minimum order quantity?
Depending on the grade you demand, our normal small package is 25 kg which can’t be sold less than one bag. If you can’t find any grade for your application and need our customized service, the MOQ will be 10 metric ton.
Q10. What kind of packages are we using?
The compounding resins will be delivered by
Small package ( 25 kg or less )
Large package ( 1,000 kg or less )
Each good will be put on a pallet and wrapped by plastic film.
Q11. Where is Polyalloy making your compounds?
We are located in Taiwan.
Q12. Does Polyalloy offer dying service?
Typically, we do not offer dying service purely. Only if you need a compound in certain color, we will dye the material during compounding. The order like this will be requested higher MOQ.
Q13. Can I purchase unmodified polymers from Polyalloy?
We are a compounder which only sells compounds. Virgin resins are not in our business scope.
Q14. I am not familiar with thermoplastics and have no idea which material should I choose for my product.
Just let us know your demands based on your background. We will recommend appropriate grade to you with over 30 years experiences.
Q15. My project is at initial stage. It’s early to tell forecast but I do need a solution of material at the moment.
PolyLab is a trial service of thermoplastic compounds. We have a professional laboratory which can run many different trails with small scale. It should be a good option for you.
Q16. How about lead time if I place an order?
To be an over 30 years compounder, we definitely have inventory of many grades, but our products are way more than these. Each grade in stock will be delivered in 72 hours. The lead time of a grade without stock is two weeks. For special grades, the lead time will be 4 weeks.
